My Fave Harlequin Categories (well…some of them)
Ooh…have been a bad little blogger…*blows dust off dashboard*…here we go…
I’m in a list mood tonight. I’m gonna make a list. A list of my fave all time, Harlequin Category romances. Do enjoy. ๐
My top five list (which…well, it’s not in order):
5. Anything For You by Sarah Mayberry, Harlequin Blaze- Why do I love it? Friends to lovers is a storyline that gets me every time, and Sarah Mayberry did a wonderful job with Sam and Delaney. It’s funny, it’s sexy, and I just feel (every time I read it…and I’ve read it lots of times…) like they HAVE to be together, and with no one else. Ever.
4. The Ruthless Greek’s Virgin Princess by Trish Morey, Harlequin Presents/Modern- Why? The opening of the book had me hooked. And more than that, it had me utterly heartbroken for the heroine. Her botched attempt at sixteen to show the hero how much she loves him and his denial of her…it’s rare to find me welling up in the first pages of a book..but I did with this one.
3. The Sheikh’s Forbidden Virgin by Kate Hewitt, Harlequin Presents- *cries* it was so good. There’s nothing like a scarred hero, and Kate has a great one here. A man who is burdened by tragedy in his past and who needs redemption, but can only find it with the one woman he cannot have…*cries more*
2. The Antonakos Marriae by Kate Walker, Harlequin Presents- I just love the premise. And the execution. The heroine is determined to have one night of freedom and be with a man of her choice before she’s married off to an old man she doesn’t love…but she picks the wrong man…and it causes *lots* of trouble…
1. Expecting His Love-Child by Carol Marinelli, Harlequin Presents- The hero is perfect, so damaged and so lovable even in his damaged state. He doesn’t treat the heroine well at first…but it’s clear he simply doesn’t know how to treat people, and immediately after he does something wrong, it’s clear her wants to do it right. A powerful story. And I will never forget the painting the heroine did of her Autistic brother’s world. Very touching and personal to me.
So, that’s my list…what category books rock your socks?

Oooh, Sarah Mayberry, oooh! Love Anything For You. As you know. ๐ And I love the ballet one she did too, Amorous Liaisons or something. Another friends to lovers theme… So, what else? It has to be MH I’m afraid (and I will have to exclude yours Maisey, being Sisters and all…)…
Anyway, Modern Heat I love:
Kelly Hunter’s Playboy Boss, Live-in mistress.
Heidi Rice’s The Tycoon’s Personal Assistant.
Natalie Anderson’s To Love, Honour, and Disobey.
And those are just a few. There are too many others to mention!
My favorite has to be Raintree: Haunted by Linda Winstead Jones which is a Silhouette Nocturne. Absolutely fantastic!
As another MH fan I have to second Heidi Rice’s The Tycoon’s Personal Assistant. Also her Bedded By A Playboy.
Ally Blake’s Getting Red-Hot With The Rogue – Best. Opening. Scene. EVER!
Nicola Marsha’s The Boss’s Bedroom Agenda
Maisey – waiting to pick up yours in the bookstore!
You expect me to name only 5? Wow…I dont know if that’s possible! But I’ll try!
2 of my all time favs are Share the Darkness by Jill Monroe and Blame It On The Blackout by Heidi Betts.
I’m reading Maisey’s right now & it rocks!
Oh, you brave, BRAVE girl. I don’t know if I could peg my top 5! I have to say though, I just wrote an unabashadly bald fangirl letter to Sarah Mayberry. The first of hers I read was “Can’t Get Enough” which makes me cry every single time I read it. EVERY TIME. Same spot.
And can I just say, she’s as lovely & gracious via email as you would imagine she would be. She even attached a helpful article on internal conflict that she’d written for a romance association, since I mentioned I was writing a book. She actually said, “hope this doesn’t bore you…”
UH, are you KIDDING?!
How do you pick? I have a bookshelf of my favorites lol!
I was at the beach all day!! But I’m back!! ๐
This was just five I was thinking of now…as soon as I finished I thought of fifteen more. *g*
Jackie, Yep, Amorous Liaisons…good. Yummy hero. Dancer. Grrrrrr.
Sally, I haven’t read a Nocturne yet, sounds like I have a rec for one!
Amy, I’m making a list of books to buy…
Emma, I can’t believe I didn’t mention When the Lights Go Down, which goes with Blame it on the Blackout. It was the first Category romance I’ve ever read. As Heidi knows since I fangirl on her all the time.
Jessica, Can’t Get Enough is AMAZING (I’m a BIG Sarah Mayberry fan and she’s one of the authors I haven’t had a chance to be in contact with yet) I think I know which scene gets you…also, have you read Cruise Control? Love love love.
Lacey, I have three hundred category romances in my bookshelf and two hundred on my Kindle…if that makes you feel better.
Thank you Maisey – I’m delighted and honoured to see The Antonakos Marriage on your Top Five list. What a compliment.
Congratulations on your own first book being published. I am looking forward to being able to read it – just the little matter of a dreadline first!
(If this posts twice – the first time I was told that your site couldn’t be found.)
Have not read Cruise Control OR Anything for You! ACK! I’m going to have to make a trip to Amazon and get them now!
My pleasure, Kate! It was one of the first Presents I read and I remember just being SO shocked and…delighted…but the situation. (I’m evil, I know, but it was TOO wonderful)
Jessica, go, buy them now, read them both. Cruise Control is a bit darker than some of her books, but I like that, and Anything For You is about as close to perfect as a book gets.
Thank you, Maisey, for including me on that illustrious list!! ๐ Congrats on the fab reviews on the M&B site–that is an achievement indeed [this coming from someone who has garnered her fair share of poor reviews on same site]. Enjoy your debut!!
Well, Kate, TBH, waiting for the other shoe to drop as far as the nice reviews go. ๐ But I feel really good knowing a few readers have enjoyed it so much.
And I really loved the sheikh, as you know. I’ll gist on you in person too in Orlando. You write brilliant books. I’ve loved every single one I’ve read. My mom and I both loved The Greek Tycoon’s Convenient Bride too…the end, with the hero’s past…oh, we both cried. Buckets.
Hey Maisey! Like you I’ve just written a list of new must buys and I’m heading on over to the Book Depository to buy buy buy!
And while here…
Big waves to Amy! How excited was I to see one of my books listed as a fave? Very! Boy did I love writing that opening scene to “Getting Red-Hot with the Rogue”. I love you right on back ;).
Ally
xXx
Ally, I have to sheepishly say, I haven’t read one of your books. But, I now plan on checkin out Red-Hot! ๐
